subcutaneous vicryl suture covering efficacy on wound complications after cesarean section

چکیده
background: increasing abdominal subcutaneous tissue thickness is a risk factor for postoperative complications in obese women who underwent cesarean section (c/s). different strategies have used to decrease the wound complications. using antibacterial vicryl suture to decrease infectious complications has been studied for several years. present study assesses the effect of subcutaneous closure with antibacterial vicryl suture on decreasing wound complications in obese women with c/s. methods: this single blind randomized clinical trial conducted on obese women whose the subcutaneous tissue thickness was more than 2cm. they divided into two case and control groups. antibacterial vicryl used in case group for closuring subcutaneous tissue in 133 patients and vicryl in control group including 131 patients. incidence rate of seroma, hematoma, wound dehiscence and wound infection were assessed. results: both groups were homogenous regarding to maternal age, gestational age, bmi, subcutaneous tissue thickness and c/s indications. in case group, incidence rate of infection slightly decreased compared to control group (1.5% vs. 6.1% p=0.059). there was no significant difference in occurrence rate of seroma, hematoma and wound dehiscence between two groups. conclusion: the results indicated that using antibacterial vicryl for subcutaneous tissue closure in obese women doesn’t seem effective to decrease wound complications while its increases the cost of surgery.

A Comparison of Plain Catgut and Vicryl in Subcutaneous Fat Tissue Closure of Cesarean Section
Wound complications such as infection, hematoma and seroma formation are major causes of delayed recovery and prolonged hospital stay after cesarean delivery. In addition to surgical technique, suture materials are implicated in these complications. Subcutaneous fat tissue is particularly susceptible to developing such problems because of its poor vascular supply. To investigate any difference ...

OBJECTIVE To define the role of suture closure of the subcutaneous dead space in preventing wound complications after cesarean delivery. DATA SOURCES We searched MEDLINE, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and the bibliographies of major texts and review articles. METHODS OF STUDY SELECTION Only studies in which patients undergoing cesarean delivery were randomly assigned to closu...
متن کاملSubcutaneous Tissue: To Suture or Not to Suture at Cesarean Section
OBJECTIVE The null hypothesis for this investigation was that there was no difference in the frequency of wound disruption between women who had their subcutaneous tissues approximated with suture and those who did not during cesarean section. METHODS During alternating months, consecutive women delivered by cesarean section either did (N = 716) or did not (N = 693) have their subcutaneous ti...
متن کاملIntraoperative handling and wound healing: controlled clinical trial comparing coated VICRYL plus antibacterial suture (coated polyglactin 910 suture with triclosan) with coated VICRYL suture (coated polyglactin 910 suture).
BACKGROUND Coated polyglactin 910 suture with triclosan was developed recently in order to imbue the parent suture, coated polyglactin 910, with antibacterial activity against the most common organisms that cause surgical site infections (SSI). Because such alterations could alter the physical properties of the suture, this study sought to compare the intraoperative handling and wound healing c...

UNLABELLED The incidence of post caesarean wound infection and independent risk factors associated with wound infection were retrospectively studied at a tertiary care hospital. A retrospective case controlled study of 107 patients with wound infection after lower segment caesarean section (LSCS) was undertaken between January 1998 and December 2007. The control group comprised of 340 patients ...
متن کاملSpontaneous complete migration of suture material after subcuticular continuous suture in cesarean section: a case report
BACKGROUND Skin closure during cesarean section is often performed with subcuticular running sutures by using a nonabsorbable suture material. However, this material has the risk of incomplete removal after wound healing and can migrate to other sites in rare cases. CASE PRESENTATION A 34-year-old Korean woman who had undergone a cesarean section 5 months prior presented with a fine, blue obj...
